Description
This course offers an introduction into and an overview of main research methods and techniques within social sciences and specifically cultural anthropology, with an emphasis on ethnographic methods. Students will learn to formulate a research question, collect data by using specific research techniques, and critically analyse the data.
Course objectives
- Formation of basic knowledge on seting up and conducting empirical research.
- Learning about the most common methods in social sciences and applying those in practice.
- Learning to define and operationalise anthropological and sociological concepts.
- Understanding the relationship between research question(s), methods, analysis and knowledge.

Time: February 3rd to March 23rd, 2016, Wednesdays 17-19 h.
Location: Pieter de la Court Building (Wassenaarseweg 52, Leiden), room 1A-21, only on 24-feb room 5A-23.
