Orientation on Microbial Biotechnology and Health

Admission requirements

A BSc in Biology or related subject (University or HLO).
This course is for MSc students in Biology that follow the specialisation Evolution Biodiversity and Conservation, but is also open to MSc students that follow a non-specialized MSc in Biology or one of the combinatorial MSc tracks: Biology and Education, Biology and Science-Based Business, Biology and Science Communication and Society.

Description

Lectures will be given by group members teaching in the cluster Microbial Biotechnology. The lectures will provide an integrated overview on the research topics studied in the Microbial Biotechnology and Health specialisation and will highlight the key scientific questions in the research fields covered by this specialization.

Learning goals

Course objectives:

  • To provide students with a good insight in de various research topics of the groups within the Microbial Biotechnology cluster

  • To introduce them to the basic concepts and the key scientific questions covered by those research fields and to provide

  • To provide students with up-to-date knowledge on the state of the art in this field.

  • To introduce students to the electronic library and methods to search for scientific articles

  • To facilitate the choice for a first MSc research project, and to enable the planning of a concept programme for the 2-years MSc specialisation.

Final qualifications:
An MSc student in Biology with an established study program, ready to start the theoretical courses and the first (internal) research project for the selected specialisation.
