Modern China: The PRC's Political System



This course gives students a better understanding of the politics and governance of the People’s Republic of China. It will introduce the PRC’s political system and how the system has evolved over the time. It examines how policy is made and who are involved; how the system has been shaped by the economy and ideology; and what kind of a role civil society and popular participation have in the Chinese system.

Course objectives

During the course, students become familiar with Chinese policymaking processes and with common theories about the Chinese political system. They develop skills of presentation, academic writing, formulating a research question, and searching for relevant research literature independently.
