Grammatica Arabisch 2.

Course description

This course familiarizes students with the vocabulary, structure, and usage of the variety of Arabic used in the written and spoken mass media. It also helps improving reading, listening, and presentation skills at the lower intermediate level.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to read short texts from current-affair pages in Arabic written media and listen to current affair news-related broadcast media, identify the main ideas and key details. They will show familiarity with vocabulary and grammar structures related to demonstrations, elections, violence and terrorism, etc. and they will be able to give a short presentation summarizing media reports on a given event or series of related events.

Seminar with mandatory attendance.

Course load

  • Classroom lectures: 52 hrs.

  • Preparation and homework: 80 hrs.

  • Test preparation: 8 hrs.

  • Total course load: 140 hrs (5 ECs).

Assessment method

Assessment will be based on the following criteria:

  • Midterm: 25%

  • Quizzes: 20%

  • Presentations 15%

  • Final Exam: 40%
