Description

There are few policy areas that remain untouched by the European Union. But what is the European Union and how does it function? This course answers these questions in a simple and practical manner. The purpose of the course is to lay the foundations for a better understanding of the European Union and the way it functions. This will be achieved in the following manner. We will first discuss the institutional framework of the European Union. Then we will discuss its main policies and the way in which it influences the lives of its citizens.

Course objectives

  • to achieve a thorough understanding of the European Union, including its institutions and key policies;

  • to understand European Union’s increasing influence on the daily lives of its citizens.

Mode of instruction

Lectures.

Course load

Total course load is 5 ec x 28 hours = 140 hours.

  • lectures and exams (14 × 2 hours = 28 hours);

  • studying literature (112 hours).

Assessment method

The final mark will be a combination of the following notes obtained during the classes, weighted in the following way:

  • midterm exam (40%);

  • final exam (60%).

Weighing

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average.

Retake

There will be a retake exam in January.

Exam Review

How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
