Description

Indonesian 5 is the fifth part of the intensive language course for beginners where students continue to learn Indonesian grammar and vocabulary, as well as cultural knowledge that is necessary for an effective understanding of texts in Indonesian. This class is conducted entirely in Indonesian and specifically focuses on enhancing reading, translating and writing skills in Indonesian and is specifically meant for those students that do not join in the semester abroad.

Course objectives

Enhancing active and passive proficiency, with special attention to enlarging writing and speaking skills and enhancing insight in academic language use. The level aimed at in the European Reference Frame is B2.

Seminar (Two two hour seminars every other week)
This course is entirely conducted in Indonesian. Attendance and participation are obligatory. Classes missed for a good reason (to the discretion of the conveners and to be discussed BEFORE the class takes place) will have to be made up with an extra assignment. Absence of more than 6 classes automatically implies exclusion from the term end paper. Being absent without notification can result in a lower grade or exclusion from the term end paper and a failing grade for the course.

Course Load

10 EC = 280 hours.

  • Seminar: 12 × 2 hours = 24 hours

  • Reading equivalent to 782 pages: 156 hours

  • Assignments = 100 hours

Assessment method

Assessment

  • discussion, active participation and intermediate assignments: 15%

  • midterm presentation and paper: 15%

  • final assignment: 70%

Weighing

The final grade for the course is determined by the weighted mean of the partial grades. The final assignment cannot be less than 5,5.

Resit

A final assignment that is graded less than 5,5 can be rewritten after consultation with the lecturer.

inspection and feedback

How and when a review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the final result, a review will have to be organized.
