A completed introduction to experimental phonetics
The main goal of this workshop is to offer participants both the knowledge and the experience needed to make independent use of the equipment and software which is used in experimental phonetics.
Attention is paid to the underlying principles, so that the equipment and software can be used in a creative yet scientifically correct way. The possibilities of adding functions to the software by means of (simple) scripts are also addressed. Finally, students are trained to find and remove the cause of common problems in a structured way.
Mode of instruction
Students will attend 13 lessons/instructions of 2 hours, weekly. Each week, before the next class, students have to complete a practical assignment. These experiments are to be carried out in the lab, alone or in small groups. A short report of each experiment has to be written.
Written reports of practical assignment for each class 100%.
Attendance at all classes is obligatory.
Students make weekly assignment. If the student does not pass an assignment, he will get an opportunity to rewrite the assignment.
Because of the setup of this course, a resit is not possible.
