Regular MA admission; sufficient knowledge of ancient Greek (at least the equivalent of 30 EC of Greek language classes; if in doubt, contact the instructor).
Greek papyri form an important source for the history of Greek, Roman and Byzantine Egypt. Students will read varied, mainly documentary, papyri from their editions and from photos and sometimes original papyri, learning to place them in their historical and cultural context. They will also give an oral presentation on on a subject of their own choice within the field of documentary papyrology.
Individual supervision by the teacher will enable students of different levels (MA and ResMA), as well as students with varying prior knowledge of Greek papyrology, to participate.

be able to decipher easier documentary papyri;
be able to translate documentary papyri;
be able to situate them in their historical and cultural context;
have acquired some basic editorial skills.

The final grade for the course is established by determining the weighted average.
In case the final mark is unsatisfactory (lower than 6), a student can take a second oral exam.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
