Compulsory for first year RESMAAS students.
In the period the course is offered, the students have to write their individual research proposals. The course supports the students in developing their proposal by tackling the basic building stones of a good research proposal. During the sessions, the students bring in parts of their draft proposal for discussion. Comments will be provided by fellow students and the instructors. Specific attention will be paid to structure and coherence of the proposal, the formulation of clear and researchable research questions, and questions of academic embeddedness and originality.
After completion of the course, the students will be able to:
Write a research proposal that is both academically sound and practically feasible;
Orally present their research plans;
Reflect on feedback received and defend their choices.
Mode of instruction
Mandatory presence of at least 80%.
The level of achievement of the course objectives will be evaluated on the basis of the assignments, student’s engagement in the group discussions, and engagement with the feedback offered.
Evaluation of the final research proposal (‘a pass’ is required for the student to be allowed to leave on fieldwork).
Resit will be done in consultation with the course instructor.
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
