Admission requirements
Bachelor degree and admission to Master Vitality & Ageing with successful completion of at least two of the three following courses: Biology of Vitality and Ageing (total), The Older Individual (total) and Organisation of the Ageing Society (total).
Description
In this internship of at least ten weeks the student will perform a research project in the field of vitality and ageing. In order to achieve the objectives, the student familiarises him/herself with the existing knowledge in the field to which the research or policy question pertains. He/she carries out individual research in order to obtain answers to the questions and participates as a member of the team of the department (university or organisation), also in consultations and in work discussions.
Course objectives
The student:
is able to apply and describe qualitative or quantitative techniques, analyses or designs
is able to design and carry out a scientifically sound research plan
is able to acquire knowledge and understanding independently and efficiently for the purpose of his/her own research or health care policy analysis through independent study of specialist literature written in English
is able to work on new insights and to develop novel approaches
is able and aware of the necessity to keep abreast of relevant developments in the field of his/her project subject, and is able to assess where and in which way he/she can contribute to this field
is able to clearly articulate and layout his/her own research findings, (clinical) ideas or health care policy analysis with well-thought through arguments
Is able to judge relevance of the research results and is able to judge the implications of the research results.
is able to cooperate in the internship’s working group/ team/ department and is aware of his/her role in the group
is able to cooperate with various people and disciplines on different levels (leadership)

Mode of instruction
Internship (preparation included), will be mentored by supervisor. Tutor group sessions/come back day will take place during the internship.
The educational lines Communication in Science, Research and Evidence and Academic Development accommodate the programme and/or the assignments of this course.
Assessment method
Thesis: written report (scientific content; scientific writing skills)
Internship assessment and thesis talk (oral presentation for the department)
Completion of compulsory assignments described in the assessment plan
Grading
The final grade is based on the written thesis (70%) and the internship assessment, including thesis talk (30%). The grading of the thesis will be done by the supervisor and the Master Internship Committee (MIC), the internship will be graded by the supervisor. Credits will only be given if all compulsory assessments are completed.
The thesis will also be assessed separately by Communication in Science.
Participation and attendance
Students are expected to be actively engaged in discussion of the content and in the activities scheduled in the programme of this course.
Resit
If an assessment or mandatory part of the course is not passed or completed, the student will get a retake or revision or has to fulfil an alternative assignment.
Exam review
How and when a review of the assessments will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the results at the latest.
