Description

Hindi in Practice course aims to enable students to critically apply the linguistic and cultural skills acquired in earlier language acquisition courses in understanding various socio-political issues related to India / South Asia and the world. This course introduces students to some authentic textual and audio-visual materials using a thematic approach. It aims to equip students with the skills to search, retrieve and use authentic Hindi language materials for research purposes. In this course students will also familiarize with range of unique digital humanities tools for text mining, text analysis, annotation, data visualization, archiving, mapping, and using data from social media for research.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, students will be able to locate written and spoken Hindi materials that can serve as data or reference for a (research) project in International Studies.

Students will analyse spoken and written Hindi texts of appropriate level. They will be able to summarise, paraphrase, and evaluate these texts in English.
