Description
In this course, students will be introduced to the text corpus from Qumran / the Dead Sea Scrolls and related material. Students will prepare and read the texts and the texts will be discussed in class. Selected texts will be read from photographs others from the standard editions (DJD).
Course objectives
Students will learn how to deal critically with texts from Qumran (and other late Second Temple corpora). They will learn to use the tools to give them access responsible to read and interpret the texts in their historical context.

10% participation
40% for translation and commentary of a Qumran text into Dutch / English
50% a 2,500 word essay
The final mark for the course will be determined by using the weighted average of these two marks.
Should the overall mark be unsatisfactory, the paper is to be revised after consultation with the teacher.
Essay feedback tutorials will be offered (students who would like one, should request it from the the lecturer)
