Description
Syntax is the study of sentential structure. Students are first introduced to the most important terms and concepts within the study of syntax. After getting acquainted with the diagnostic tests to distinguish word classes and grammatical categories, we turn to diagnostic tests for constituent structures and hierarchical structures. In the second part of the course, we introduce students to some basic elements of generative syntax.

Resit
Students who did not pass the course can resit the exam.
inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.

An introduction to syntactic analysis and theory, by Dominque Sportiche, Hilda Koopman and Edward Stabler (mainly the first 6 chapters). Published by Blackwell, 2014.
