Compulsary for students enrolled in RESMA African Studies
Description
Students work on their research project on a topic that is relevant to the broad spectrum of African Studies in Africa or an Africa-related setting. The fieldwork is based on an extensive period of preparations and research proposal writing.
Course objectives
Building experience in independent empirical research
Executing a phased research plan, including adapting it if conditions ask for this
Constructing quantitative and / or qualitative empirical data sets
Practicing empirical research methods and skills
Practicing intercultural and reflexive skills
Developing preliminary analyses and reflecting on preliminary outcomes while going through the research cycle

Assessment method
Feedback on the fieldwork by the supervisors. The ultimate assessment is in the assessment of the thesis, which is based on the student’s fieldwork.
