Internship BA3

Vak
2023-2024

Admission requirements

Bachelor Archaeology first year obtained.

Description

This internship is meant to master your previously acquired practical skills and to enhance your employability opportunities. You can choose between developing an advanced level of fieldwork skills in a Faculty project or at another archaeological organisation, an internship at a museum or a governmental organisation, work on archaeological materials in a laboratory, or databases or GIS projects.

You are expected to arrange your own internship.
You can choose any project or company you would like to get more insight in, and where you want to build up experience with the workflow. However, you should make sure that the skills practiced in the Internship BA3 have an added value to your previous field projects, and lead to a portfolio that shows experience in a diversity of type and level of skills.

An internship is concluded with a report/essay in which the academic/scientific and societal framework, data and analyses are accounted for. The report also includes a critical review of the internship. The instructions for the report can be found on Brightspace.
During Field School 1, Internship BA2, Internship BA3, and throughout the Master programme Applied Archaeology you will build up your own personal portfolio containing all your acquired (field) skills and experiences.

Where to go?

Always start by checking Brightspace: here you can find all the necessary procedures, forms and FAQs. On Brightspace a list of relevant archaeological organisations in the Netherlands is also provided, as are internship possibilities that have come to the Faculty’s attention.

Conditions

The duration of the internship is at least 15 days of minimally 8 working hours (5 ec). Please note that an internship project that lasts longer than 15 days is only counted as 5 ec. The remaining credits will be stated on the diploma as extra-curricular.
You can schedule your internship in any period in which you do not have educational obligations, including January. But please note that exams and retakes have priority.
