Only those who successfully completed all BA2 courses and are ready to write their graduation thesis can enrol.

Description

The aim of this course is to enable students to read advanced-level texts in Korean for academic purposes. At the end of the course, students will be better parepared linguistically to conduct a review of literature written in Korean for their own research.

Course objectives

Students will:

  • Familiarize themselves with the styles and the linguistic conventions of advanced-level Korean texts, including academic texts and news articles.

  • Develop reading fluency and strategies.

  • Increase vocabulary knowledge.

Assessment method

Assessment and weighing

Students must meet the quiz requirement and submit a final project to successfully complete the course. Thereafter final grades will be determined according to the following formula:

  • Weekly Reading quizzes: 20%

  • Biweekly vocabulary/grammar tests: 35%

  • Assignments: 20%

  • Final project: 25%

Resit

  • There is no resit for a failed or missed reading quiz. You must receive 55% or higher in all reading quizzes combined in order to pass the course.

  • You may request up to 2 reists for the vocabulary/grammar test, whether failed or missed. All resits will take place during the final exam week.

  • If you receive a score below 5.5 for the final project, you should resit.

Inspection and feedback

Within two weeks after a test or an assignment, students can review their test and receive feedback.

Remarks

As is the case for all Korean Studies courses, a strict attendance policy will be enforced. Attendance in all lectures and seminars is expected. If you do not attend more than three classes (per 5EC), you will not be able to continue attending the classes and your exam and/or paper may not be graded by the instructor(s). If you have a valid reason for absence, you may get dispensation from this rule, but this requires that you consult the coordinator of studies.

Dispensation from the attendance policy for extenuating circumstances can only be granted by the Board of Examiners.
