Entry requirements for students in the BA Midden-Oostenstudies (track Modern Middle East).
Propedeutic exam and 15 EC trackspecific courses (BA 2/1st semester)
Description
The course teaches qualitative research methods such as participant observation, interviewing, working with focus groups, online, media, and visual ethnography. Students develop their research skills by carrying out in-class and other assignments. They also learn how to design a research project by forming research questions, critically engaging with relevant literature, and using theories and concepts. The students collaborate extensively together with their instructor during their fieldwork period. At the end of the semester, students write a final report, in which they present and analyse their fieldwork findings.

Acquiring research skills and gaining experience in doing ethnographic research.
Designing and conducting a research project.
Developing generic skills, including research, analysis, critical thinking, oral presentations, and academic writing.
Developing an in-depth insight into Moroccan society through ethnographic research.

Resit
If the final grade is below 5.5, the students must rewrite the paper (40%) based on feedback.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
