Urban Behavioral Science Research Lab

Vak
2024-2025

Admission requirements

This course is only available for students in the BA Urban Studies programme.

Description

The research lab introduces students to a specific discipline in urban research. Through exploring specialist research, students become acquainted with a large volume of scholarship and learn how to work with a high amount of sources. This allows students to develop transferable research skills in preparation for writing the thesis.

The behavioural science research lab explores the field of behavioural science in the urban context. During this research seminar, student will learn how to identify a relevant knowledge gap from the literature, how to translate this into a scientific research question, how to operationalize the research question into (qualitative and quantitative) behavioral science research methodologies, and how to analyze and interpret data resulting from these methodologies. Students will gain experience with these skills within the context of a highly relevant societal topic: socioeconomic health inequalities. This research seminar focuses mainly on the ‘healthy city’ theme, but students can choose to integrate a focus on sustainability, multicultural city, and safety as well,
