Description
This skills-building module prepares and supports students for and during their field assignments. Students will be introduced to different entrepreneurial tools from Design -, Complex -, and Systems Thinking, to team formation, project management, and consulting frameworks. This set of tools will allow students to understand that one problem can be tackled from different perspectives and leads to a more precise mapping and description of the field assignment in which expectations, aspirations, objectives, outputs, tasks, working schedule, etc. are further determined.
Through interactive sessions, the course also intends to challenge mindsets regarding the interplay between the so-called Global “South” and “North”, and how positionality, biases, and context influence how students perceive the wider world. The sessions will be convened and guided such that feelings of discomfort are fostered as well as that students feel heard, seen, and valued.
In addition, students will need to interact and become acquainted with the local context of their field assignment country of destination through specific sessions that focus on diversity, inclusion and intercultural communication.
Course objectives
Objective: To establish a basic understanding of the expected outputs of the field assignment leading to the development of a realistic field assignment that details expectations, aspirations, objectives, outputs, tasks, and a work schedule.
Outcomes: After this module students are able to:
1. Apply different thinking and lean principles to complex problems;
2. Employ theories and tools to assess societal challenges;
3. Identify and critically assess own ideas by conducting a rapid assumptions tests;
4. Conduct personal and online interviews and research in an intercultural setting;
5. Evaluate personal potential, limitations, progress and role in a team;
6. Reflect on own contribution to solving a frugal innovation challenge.

The final mark for the course is established by determining the weighted average. To pass the course, the weighted average of the partial grades must be 5.5 or higher.
Resit
A resit is where possible the same subtest as the first, within the given timeframe.
Inspection and feedback
How and when an exam review will take place will be disclosed together with the publication of the exam results at the latest. If a student requests a review within 30 days after publication of the exam results, an exam review will have to be organized.
