This Ma-Seminar offers a survey of economic developments in various ASEAN member states since the 1960’s. Questions are addressed such as the following : What were the determinants of rapid economic growth ? Why were Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand so successful, or conversely, why did the Philippines lag behind ? How about Indonesia’s achievement in terms of economic and social development ? What caused the financial crisis of 1997/98 ? Which measures were taken to combat the crisis ? How successful has the recovery been ?
