MA Thesis (including Fieldwork/ Practical Studies Laboratory Leiden/Monrepos)

Vak
2008-2009

The first part involves the research plan, to be finished at the end of the first semester, with problem orientation and clearly defined research questions oriented towards a data set. Both research questions and data set are chosen in close coordination with the research group.
Students are required to develop a hands on experience with practical work, i.e. fieldwork/ and/or laboratory studies, depending on their previous studies. For this goal the department will cooperate with the Forschungsstelle Altsteinzeit, Schloss Monrepos (Germany), a unique research center entirely devoted to the archaeology of hunter-gatherers. Besides cooperation in the domain of fieldwork and laboratory studies, this joint venture also enables students to work on / write parts of their theses using the free facilities of this institute.
During the second year the thesis is written as a report on the actual research and its conclusions. In principle a summary of the research has to be published in an international journal.
