Philosophy of Linguistics II : Assertion

Vak
2008-2009

Assertion, being a speech-act, is primarily a topic in pragmatics, but it extends to philosophy of logic and epistemology, if one defends the thesis assertion involves a truth and knowledge claim. Some have argued that a semantics for declarative sentences can be given in terms of the act of assertion, thus crossing the boarder of semantics and pragmatics.
