Modern Chinese Economy A

Vak
2008-2009

This course introduces the key concepts and debates of modern economics, and applies them to the People’s Republic of China after the introduction of economic reforms. The approach is thematic, and focuses on topics such as China’s national income, its labour and capital markets, consumption and savings, public spending, China’s monetary system, economic growth, and China’s foreign trade. The questions to be answered are how China’s most recent economic performance should be evaluated, what challenges the PRC faces, and whether the country will be able to continue its current course of economic development.
