Description
The course is designed to introduce students the basics of social research. The most important topics related to two styles of political science research – qualitative and quantitative – are discussed, as well as the possibilities and benefits of combining these two. Class syllabus will be accessible through blackboard.

Methods of instruction
The course will be taught in seminar style and active participation is obligatory. Each student is required to prepare a short presentation (2-3 minutes), dealing with the literature that is assigned for each week. The presentation provides a starting point for class discussion. Students should adequately prepare for the discussion by reading assigned literature.
Study material
- E. Babbie (2006). The Practice of Social Research (eleventh edition). – Additional readings will be made available in a folder at the FSW library.
Total number of pages of assigned readings is approximately 400 pages.
Examination
Students have to prepare the readings for each week and give two or three presentations during the course. Moreover, all students need to hand in a short paper (5-10 pages) by the end of the term.
