Het college behandelt moderne computer- en telecommunicatie-netwerken en de daarbij behorende protocollen en theorieën. Hierbij zal worden gekeken naar zowel lokale netwerken (LANs) als wide area netwerken (WANs). Behandeld worden zaken als encoding, data-transmissie, error-correctie, bridging, Ethernet, ATM, TCP/IP, packet-switching, circuit-switching, routing, flow control en congestion control.
