Psychology of Abnormal Behaviour

This course addresses the psychological aspects of a variety of abnormal conditions, encountered in clinical or forensic practice, with important consequences for both the individual as well as for society. The course aims at increasing theoretical knowledge of these specific abnormal conditions.

Attention will be paid to etiological models, psychosocial aspects, assessment, and treatment/management of the several abnormal conditions.

Aim(s)

Aim of the course: to increase theoretical knowledge of a variety of abnormal conditions, including etiology, and diagnostic and therapeutic issues relating to these disorders.

Examination

Required condition

Propedeuse course Personality, Clinical and Health Psychology or similar course.

Education method(s)

7 lectures, during 7 weeks, 2 hours per lecture.

  • 30-03-09: Lecture 1: Brief introduction to the course by the course coordinator, followed by Addiction: Alcohol and Tobacco.

  • 06-04-09: Lecture 2: Addiction: Drugs and Medicines

  • 20-04-09: Lecture 3: Cognitive Disorders: Dementia

  • 27-04-09: Lecture 4: Sleep disorders.

  • 04-05-09: Lecture 5: Physical Disorders and Health Psychology

  • 11-05-09: Lecture 6: Chronic Fatigue and Burn Out

  • 18-05-09: Lecture 7: Aggression and Criminality

Application

Enrolment for courses of the second semester will take place from January 18th (10hr) until January 21th (10hr) 2010, via U-TWIST.

NB: Exam and re-exam registration will take place via U-Twist, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who haven’t registered, cannot participate in the (re)exam.
