Social Skills Training

Vak
2009-2010

During this course a number of possible interventions for children who have encountered problems in their social development during their years at elementary school and initial years at high school will be the topic of discussion. The focus will be on teaching skills. While the methods to be used in this course are mostly based on social-learning theories, other theories and perspectives will be explored, such as theory on group dynamics and systemic psychology. The role of the trainer is an integral part of this exploration.

After having studied a number of different consultation procedures theoretically, students will start working with children in the children’s own school environment, under supervision of the course supervisor. The course supervisor will provide contact details of schools. Progress and personal methodology will be evaluated and reflected upon by means of video-recordings of the sessions and reflection reports.

Accumulated knowledge and experience can be put into practice within an internship/ job in youth-care and/or within the context of school.

Please note: This course is only available to Dutch-speaking students.
