Preparatory Statistics

This bachelor level course is meant for students who (will) start a master study at the institute but do not have sufficient knowledge of Research Methods and Statistics. In a concentrated course the main principles that guide behavioural research shall be discussed, and the most frequently used statistical techniques shall be explained and practiced.

Aims

Provide students with the same knowledge of and skills regarding research methods and statistics as those with a Leiden bachelor degree in psychology.

Examination

Written Exam

From January 1th 2006, the Faculty of Social Sciences has instituted the Ephorus system to be used by instructors for the systematic detection of plagiarism in students’ written work. Please take a look at the Additional Rules and Regulations, section 6.

Education method(s)

  • A series of ten lectures where the material will be discussed.

  • A series of ten practicals in a computer lab, where input, manipulation and analysis of data in SPSS will be practiced.

  • A series of ten sets of assignments

Enrolment

Introduction and enrollment for courses of the first semester will take place August 27th 2009. More information will be available at the website of the Institute of Psychology.

NB: Exam and re-exam registration will take place via U-Twist, and will be open between a month and a week before the (re)exam. Students who don’t register, cannot participate in the (re)exam.
