To gain a broad understanding of burial or cremation practices in various cultures;
To acquire a knowledge of the taphonomic processes which influence bone assemblages between burial or cremation and excavation;
To gain an understanding of the relations between burial practices, decomposition and the state of the human bone assemblage.
