Description:
An advanced course in the documentation and analysis of taphonomic processes and the reconstruction of burial or cremation practices. The course includes detailed examination of dating techniques, isotope analysis, trace elements analysis, bio-molecular investigations.

Lectures and practical classes, 5 contact hours per week: 2 hour lecture on research methods in mortuary archaeology, 3 hour practical session with human material

To gain knowledge of excavation methods and techniques (including taphonomy),
To gain knowledge of documentation (drawing, photography and written reports),
To gain knowledge of procedures for sampling, for example, for ancient DNA and isotope analysis,
To learn to apply these methods and techniques when being confined by a specific research question.
