Description
Moral psychology investigates the relationship between human nature and moral agency. What constraints does human nature provide for normative ethics? What are the prerequisites for moral responsibility? How do human agents respond and function in morally significant situations? This course covers some of the main issues in moral psychology. We will address philosophical problems, such as internal vs. external reasons, weakness of the will, intentionality and moral responsibility. And we will focus on some of the issues that have more recently been raised by empirical data, such as automatic vs. conscious control, the role of the emotions, and the influence of situational factors.
