Following the successful completion of the instructional components of the programme, students are required to complete and submit a thesis on a topic of their choice. It must address and analyse a substantive issue of law, and may not be merely descriptive.

Onderwijsvormen

Lecturers of the programme supervise the thesis, taking into account their specific field of study and expertise (Prof. John Dugard, Prof. Nico Schrijver, Prof. Niels Blokker, Prof. Horst Fischer, Dr. Machteld Boot-Matthijssen, Dr. Larissa van den Herik, Dr. Marten Zwanenburg). The academic co-ordinator acts as a second reader.

Toetsing

The thesis ought to be of potentially publishable quality. Some alumni in the past have published their thesis, for example, in the Leiden Journal of International Law.
