Beyond covering the prevailing debates about the multiple formations of modernity, this seminar centers around the pivotal question of how Muslims encounter the challenge of Modernity; and how these encounters affect the tenets of the doctrine. A good part of the course delves into the major texts by key modern Muslims thinkers including sich figures as Muhammad Abdu, Rashid Reda, Sayyid Qutb, Ali Shariati, Khomeini, Abdulkarm Soroush. And the major part will explore how ordinary Muslims, women, and youths experience or remake modern life in their day to day existence.
