Northwest Semitic Epigraphy

Vak
2009-2010

Most of what we know about the society, administration, economy etc. of Ancient Israel, the Aramaic communities in the Roman Near East, medieval Jewish communities and many others is derived from so-called “documentary” texsts, such as inscriptions, ostraca, and papyri. This course addresses the philological and historical interpretation of a variety of epigraphic documents against their wider background. The choice of texts and the method applied will differ per year and strongly depend on the participants’ interest. For more information, please contact the teaching staff.
