Culture Seminar: History

The Culture Seminar on Histories surveys the main trends in the recent historiography of Southeast Asia, in particular Indonesia. The pre-modern, colonial and post-colonial periods are discussed in detail using authoritative texts. The aim is to provide an insight into the state-of-the-art of Southeast Asian and Indonesian art history. Special attention is given to Indonesian-language historiography. Students give critical comments on the assigned literature and write an essay of ca. 6000 words on one of the topics discussed during the seminar. An oral presentation is given at the last meeting of the seminar.
