Admission requirements

A BSc in Biology or related subject (University or HLO), with a solid theoretical and practical training in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Microbiology.

Description

This course concentrates on the basic theoretical knowledge of microbiology, cellular biology, molecular genetics, immunology and plant cell physiology and the connection between these sub disciplines.

Learning goals

Course objectives:
Test of basic knowledge in subjects of Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Microbiology.

Final qualifications:
A starting MSc student with sufficient theoretical background to progress in the MCB MSc program.

Timetable

Start in September 2011 or February 2012, exams in October 2011 and March 2012 (final dates will be put on black board by coordinator).
This course needs to be finished successfully before any other course or a research project can be started.

Examination dates: 13 September at 11.00 and 12 October at 11.00 at the Cell Observatory, Gorlaeus lab, room 0.0.20

Assessment method

A multiple choice exam with a final mark of at least 6.0. Maximally 1 re-exam allowed. Note: For most pre-educations this exam should be easily doable with only a fast review of the study material.

Remarks

In case no sufficient score is obtained, it means that the severe theoretical deficiency has to be remedied during free time (e.g. language course or bachelor subjects). This has to be done within 1 month and no other parts of MCB-track will be creditable without the subsequent re-examination.
