Admission requirements
Participants are expected to possess basic knowledge of biochemistry and genetics at BSc level. Some attention will be paid to basics.
Description
This caput series focuses on general principles of the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes at the level of transcription, with emphasis on protein modifications, protein-protein interactions and changes in chromatin structure during gene expression. Specific examples that will be dealt with are the regulation of gene expression involved in cancer and in innate immune responses in animals and plants.
Learning goals
Course objectives:
This course aims at providing knowledge on the molecular mechanisms of gene expression and on techniques commonly used to study these mechanisms.
Attention is paid to general mechanisms illustrated with specific examples from animals (humans) and plants.
Final qualifications:
Participants understand the basic mechanisms governing gene expression. They understand the main techniques used to study gene expression and chromatin dynamics. They have state-of –the-art in-depth knowledge about specific examples of transcriptional regulation. They understand the general role of gene expression programs governing the innate immune response and cancer.
