Description

This course consists of small interactive seminars and covers topics such as brain structure and functioning in relation to psychopathology, biological treatment , psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. In the small interactive seminars students will work together on an assignment and prepare an oral presentation on biological aspects of psychiatric disorders.

Last years the topic covered was “What is the impact of psychotherapy and medication on brain functioning. What do they share. Where do they differ? How and why do Adverse Events in childhood lead to (psycho)pathology”.

Course objectives

Student should have a basic knowledge about issues relating to the biological aspects of ( psycho)pathology and its interaction with the environment. Further a more than basic knowledge of specific issues as specified in the research question to be addressed during the course.

Mode of instruction

Seminars including a work visit to a mental health organisation.

Assessment method

Quality of written essay and presentation of results and, depending on level and individual performance, additional tasks.
