Description

The Turkish Language Course consist of two modules: grammar (Van Schaaik) and conversation (Yıldırım), which are to be given in a parallel fashion. The duration of the course is limited to one academic term (september-december).
Turkish has a structure quite different from that of for instance English, Russian, Persian, or Arabic. The words of Turkish are built up by smaller elements like beads on a string. Through a systematic treatment of the main characteristics of this fascinating language, combined with ample exercises, the student will learn how to read, understand, and speak in less than no time.

  • To develop a good understanding of the basic principle of Turkish grammar.

  • To develop skills in reading, understanding, and speaking.

  • 4 hours per week grammar: 52 hours

  • 4 hours per week conversation: 52 hours

  • 8 hours per week homework and preparation: 104 hours

  • 2 × 36 hours exam preparation: 72 hours
    = 280 hours (10 ECTS)

Assessment method

Two exams for grammar; progress in conversational skills can be assessed at the end of the term.
