Premodern Chinese I and II. Successful completion of Klassiek Chinees 3a (voorheen: Premodern Chinese IIIA) is recommended.

Description

This is a Classical Chinese course for advanced students who have completed basic level Classical Chinese courses (I and II).

Course objectives

  • Further expand students’ Classical Chinese vocabulary

  • Improve students’ knowledge of Classical Chinese grammar

  • Develop the ability to read Classical Chinese texts fluently

  • Help student learn to use dictionaries and other relevant sources

  • Develop translation skills

Total of approximately 140 hours ( 5EC x 28uur )

26 contact hours ( 13 weeks x 2 hours per week )
78 hours of preparation ( 13 weeks x 6 hours per week )
36 hours of exam and exam preparation

Assessment method

  • Quizzes: 10%

  • Assignments: 20%

  • Attendance and performance in class: 20%

  • Examination: 50%

The final grade consists of the weighted average of all course components. A resit for the final exam is allowed if a student scores a non-passing grade (5,49 or lower) on the first attempt.
