Course Description
Course can be taught in English on request.
The course offers an introduction to the Languages and Cultures of Africa. Topics that are covered are: Geography, Nature, Climate, Social organisation, Agriculture, Linguistic landscape, Body and Health, Masks, City planning and architecture, etc
Special attention is paid to the relevance of language and culture for these topics.
Course objectives
Basic knowledge about the African continent; insight into the relevance of langugae and culture for the understanding of Africa.
General: searching and selecting information; use of libraries, developing style in writing.

Assessment method
Test on geographical knowledge (20%);
presenting and writing a short encyclopedic article (50%),
4 assignments (30%)
Resit for any part that has been graded < 5,0
