Description
Technology surrounds us in many forms, enabling the accomplishment of a multitude of tasks. While man has designed and produced technology to suit his purpose over millennia, the opposite has also held true. In other words, technology has shaped and continues to shape society. This bilateral connection between technology and society is the motivation behind this course. The Technology in Society course will take participants through a historical trail of the connection between technology and man, finally arriving at the modern 21st century day that is marked by the ubiquity of ICT (information and communication technology). The objective of this journey is to immerse the student in the true meaning of technology, thereby promoting greater affinity and enhanced consciousness of technology’s ever present role in society. Students will become acquainted with the evolution of technology driven by societal needs, the diffusion of technology within societies, and a systemic view of technology as a socio-technical phenomenon. Finally, the course will introduce the notion of platform-based Innovation Ecosystems that describes the collective of organizations that develop a technological innovation, focusing on ICT Ecosystems.
