Admission requirements

Open to Master students, who passed one of the following courses:

  • Clinical Psychology: Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (Practical part)
  • Health Psychology: Cognitive Behavioral Interventions (Practical part)
  • Child and Adolescent Psychology: Behavior Training with Children
  • Clinical Neuropsychology: Intervention Strategies in Clinical Neuropsychology: Practical training

Presence requirements

Presence is obligatory for all lectures.
Participation is obligatory in E-Health store and online workgroups.

Description

The course introduces Master students to E-health interventions in mental health care. The course provides a broad overview on E-health in different clinical settings and addresses current applications, scientific evidence, and new developments. Students are introduced to the widely used E-Health Store (E-Health Warenhuis), through which online care is provided. In the recent past, over 35.000 clients have been treated through the E-Health Store. At present, approximately 100 different treatment modules of the E-Health Store are used by well-known treatment centers like Parnassia, PsyQ, and Brijder.
Students first get practical information about the use of online therapeutic techniques. Subsequently, students get online access to a selection of E-health modules offered by the E-Health Store (such as modules on assertiveness, excessive worrying or stress management). Students will also be given the opportunity to practice with these E-Health modules both as a therapist and as a client, during the course. While working with these modules, students participate in online workgroups with a chat forum. Supervision will be provided online by the coordinators.
In the lectures, guest speakers from various, specific mental health care settings will address their E-health practices, like eating disorders, addiction, and anxiety disorders. In addition, a broad range of applications and related topics will be addressed, such as virtual reality, smartphone applications, persuasive gaming, blended forms of E-health, motivation, legal and ethical aspects of E-health, limitations, and future developments.

Course objectives

  • Students have knowledge about the current state of the art of E-health interventions and applications in various mental health care settings.
  • Students have knowledge about scientific evidence of E-health interventions, as well as about legal and ethical aspects, limitations and new developments.
  • Students have knowledge about the basic principles of providing E-health interventions in mental health care settings.
  • Students have practical experience in applying one or more E-health modules in the E-Health Store, both as therapist and client.

Registration

Course enrolment

Students need to enroll for the course via uSis on the master’s introduction and course enrolment day that takes place at the start of each semester. Please, consult the master’s agenda Psychology and the Instructions registration

Exam registration

Students must register for each examination. Students, who haven’t registered, cannot participate in an exam. They can register via uSis from 100 to 10 calendar days before the date; students who are not registered will not be permitted to take the examination. Registering for exams

Mode of instruction

Lectures and workgroups (attendance of all meetings is obligatory):

  • Lectures: to cover the relevant literature, to provide knowledge about E-health interventions and applications in mental health practice.
  • Chat forum for students: to share experiences with working as an online treatment provider (intervision).
  • Online workgroups: intervision with fellow students/supervision from coordinators on E-health module work.

Assessment method

  1. Completing E-health module as a therapist


    1. Completing E-health module as a client
    2. Writing a group and individual reflection report on work with E-health modules (pass/fail)
    3. Exam on book (see below), articles and lecture slides
      Students have to pass both the reflection report and the exam. Grading will be based on the exam.

The Faculty of Social Sciences has instituted that instructors use a software programme for the systematic detection of plagiarism in students’ written work. In case of fraud disciplinary actions will be taken. Please see the information concerning fraud
