Themes in European Prehistory and Current issues in prehistoric research obtained.
Description
The European Prehistory profile organises different kinds of fieldwork and is working on several research projects. Students can participate in most of these projects in several ways.
The options for fieldwork internships are:
West-Frisia (survey supervised by R. Jansen, and sometimes excavation, supervised by H. Fokkens);
The Veluwe (surveys and excavation of burial mounds, supervised by Q. Bourgeois and D. Fontijn).
Students can participate in these fieldwork projects by writing a research plan, carrying out ca. 3 weeks of fieldwork and writing a reflective report.The internship can also involve post-excavation research or research in the framework of one of the staff members. Examples are: research of West-Frisia excavations, research in the framework of the Late Neolithic-Early Bronze Age project.
RMA-students following this module have to write a contextual chapter that places the internship research in a wider (international) perspective. They also participate in planning and in directing the excavation. This involves preparatory sessions in April, May and June and writing an excavation plan.

RMA-students learn how to place research results in a wider international perspective;
RMA-students learn how to plan and direct parts of an excavation.

Tutorial.
Course load
The course load will be distributed as follows:
Planning (0,5 ects);
Internship (3 ects);
Evaluation report (1,5 ects).
Assessment method
Internship assessment by the supervisor (70%);
Evaluation report (30%).
