Description
This course consists of intensive reading of texts in the Classical Chinese literary language of China, for MA students who have successfully completed their studies of Classical Chinese at BA level.
Course objectives
expanding vocabulary and grammatical knowledge
refining reading skills
refining translation skills
using dictionaries and other relevant sources

Course Load
2 contact hours per week=12×2: 24 hours
5 hours preparing for ca. 12 classes: 60 hours
Preparing assignments: 10 hours
Final essay: 46 hours
Total course load: 140 hours
Assessment method
Class participation and assignments 40% of the final grade
Final essay, including a translation of a text selected by the student 60% of the final grade
Students must complete all requirements (participation, assignments, final essay) to pass the course.
There is no resit opportunity for participation and assignments. The resit for the final essay is only available to students whose final grade is insufficient. The resit will then make up 100% of the grade.
