Seminar 2: Perspectieven op Korea

Vak
2015-2016

Admission requirements

This course is for students who stay and study in South Korea as part of their degree programme.

Description

This course is for students who stay and study in South Korea as part of their degree programme. People are constituted through their own experiences; they are shaped, transformed and touched by par¬ticular experiences. Emotional or physical, and direct or indirect, experiences shape knowledge production. The point is not simply about adding or mentioning experience, but more about pursuing and focalising ‘the political’ of experience. This significance of experience leads to the question of situatedness. Depending on where one stands, things are different; experiences are varied. Knowledge is situated within a certain time and space.

Against this backdrop, the course seeks to explore the politics of experience in the context of Korean Studies. Students are invited to work on various assigned materials/themes. Examples include: among others, experience and knowledge, Hamel, European travellers, history, Dutch-Korean relations and current affairs. The eventual goal of the course is to help students make the most of their experience in Korea.
