Admission requirements

This course is only available for students in the BA International Studies who have passed Korean 1 Beginners.

Description

This course is designed to enhance communication skills acquired in Korean 1 with heavy focus on oral and aural competence. Students will attain pre-intermediate level Korean through near-authentic materials, various class activities, and action-oriented learning tasks. In addition, students will develop further knowledge of the Korean language for everyday communication, such as grammar and vocabulary, expressions and sentence structures.

Course objectives

The course objectives (A2 level) are as follows. *To be able to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. *To be able to describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. *To be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance, e.g. basic personal and family information, local geography.

Mode of instruction (in principe staat dit gewoon vast, tenzij anders aangegeven)

Three two hour tutorials every week
Attending lectures and tutorials is compulsory. If you are not able to attend a lecture or a tutorial, please inform the tutor of the course. Being absent without notification can result in a lower grade or exclusion from the final exam or essay.

Course Load

Total course load: 280 hours
Attending classes: 72 hours (6 hrs per week over 12 weeks)
Preparing classes, exams and extra activities: 208 hours

Assessment method

4 oral and written exams 40%
8 continuous assessments (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) 20%
8 vocabulary quizzes 20%
Video project 10%
Participation (home assignment, presentation, and attendance) 10%
The resit will be a written exam of two hours, and will test if the students have reached the end level of this semester. This exam consists of the following components: *Reading and writing; *Written dialogue; *Vocabulary and grammar.
