Field school 2

Vak
2017-2018

Admission requirements

Field school 1 and at least 30 ec of the BA1-programme obtained.

For non-Leiden students: equivalent (basic) level in archaeological excavation techniques.

Description

The field school offers many possibilies in acquiring skills needed for future employment.
You can choose between developing an advanced level of fieldwork skills or an internship at a museum, archaeological company or any other professional field.

You can choose any project or company you would like to get more insight in and experience with the work flow, but you should make sure that the skills practised in the internship lead to a portfolio that shows sufficient diversity of type and level of skills.

The length of the fieldwork is at least 34 days (10 ec), but may comprise multiple shorter field projects. Please note that a fieldwork that lasts longer than 17 days is only counted as 5 ec – the remaining ec will be stated on your diploma as extracurricular. This is to ensure that you do not concentrate your fieldwork too one-sidedly and thus reduce your employability chances.

For more information about the individual projects or about possibilities for an internship in companies or museums, please contact the region coordinators directly – they can advise you in detail about commercial companies and projects, and will mark the individual reports.
The internship coordinator, dr. de Bruin, can advise you on the rules and regulations.
Enroll yourself in the BlackBoard module to stay informed about placements on offer.
