Field techniques obtained.
This course is a practical of 2 weeks in which the skills, acquired during the previous course Field techniques can be applied, focusing on the excavation of archaeological sites and the recording and interpretation of the collected data.
Knowledge about the application of a set of practical archaeological fieldwork and sampling techniques on an elementary level;
Knowledge of and insight into the specific archaeological digging methods and techniques, and which one to use under which conditions;
Ability to distinguish human activity from natural formation processes, soils and deposits;
Ability to describe archaeological data according to guidelines;
Ability to write daily field notes in a business-like manner;
Ability to write a well-structured academic report in which the Technical Thesis Guidelines are applied;
Ability to apply visual material in daily field notes and in the Field School 1 report in such a manner that it strengthens or clarifies the description.
Mode of instruction
The course load will be distributed as follows:
10 days of field school (4 ec);
Report of 2,000 words (1 ec).
During fieldwork: assessment of your practical skills and attendance (20%);
Quality of the daily reports and portfolio for the excavation (40%);
Field School 1 report (40%).
Any individual grades may be compensated according to the regulations in the OER. A retake is only possible for the final report, but only if all other requirements have been met.

The Administration Office will register all BA1 students for their tutorials (not lectures; register via uSis!).
BA2, BA3, MA/MSc and RMA/RMSc students are required to register for all lectures and tutorials well in time.
The Administration Office registers all students for their exams, students are not required to do this in uSis.
