Admission requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology;

  • Admission to the RMA Archaeology programme.

Description

Our key fieldwork site is currently Les Cottés (France), which has an excellent record of the archaeology of both the last Neanderthals and the earliest modern humans.

Course objectives

Learning how to:

  • conduct fieldwork research;

  • set up fieldwork research;

  • define an excavation strategy;

  • place research results in a wider international perspective;

  • plan and supervise sub-projects on the excavation.

Mode of instruction

Tutorial.

Course load

The course load will be distributed as follows:

  • Planning (0,5 ec);

  • Internship (3 ec);

  • Evaluation report (1,5 ec).

Assessment method

  • Internship assessment by the supervisor (70%);

  • Evaluation report (30%).

A retake consists of the improvement of the evaluation report within 3 weeks after first submission, but only if all other requirements have been met.

The evaluation report needs to be handed in within 6 weeks after the end of the internship.

All assessment deadlines (exams, retakes, paper deadlines etc.) can be found in the RMA and RMSc examination schedule.

Registration

Registration via uSis is mandatory.

  • The Administration Office will register all BA1 students for their tutorials (not lectures; register via uSis!).

  • BA2, BA3, MA/MSc and RMA/RMSc students are required to register for all lectures and tutorials well in time.

  • The Administration Office registers all students for their exams, students are not required to do this in uSis.
